The Greenleaf Billiards’ 100 year old legacy is a tribute to our namesake, 14 times World Pocket Billiards Campion, Ralph Greenleaf. The New York Times said of Greenleaf, in March 1950: "What Babe Ruth did for baseball, Dempsey did for fighting, Tilden did for tennis...Greenleaf did for pocket billiards." The oak leaf logo symbolizes the fact that our flagship tables are made from one hundred percent solid oak wood, kiln dried and moisture tested by our own factory quality control staff.
In May of two thousand and four, Greenleaf began development of an e-commerce concept for marketing large “high-end” recreational items for the home. This would include both indoor and outdoor billiards and accessories, hot-tubs, mini-bars, pub-tables, poker tables, lighting, area rugs, theatre lounge chairs, and many more items. Traditionally, Greenleaf provided the design and development of home furnishings, with a focus on luxury items such as billiards, and manufacturing supply chain and distribution to retail outlets across the United States. However, Greenleaf was fully aware of the potential advantages, and risk, of a B-to-C (business to consumer) e-commerce venture.
The advantages for the consumer are obvious; wider selection, with faster delivery, at much lower prices. One of the obstacles that would have to be overcome to make this a reality was extending the existing shipping and distribution networks for these large items beyond the retail stores, and into the consumer’s homes. This was something that did not exist in any form or fashion at that time. Other issues included installation and maintenance service for these luxury items on a national level; also nonexistent at the time. To analyze assess and overcome these and many other risk factors, Greenleaf launched pooltables-direct.com, in October of 2004, as a pilot program and incubator for product and concept exploration.
